 WILLIAM K. KOPPANY

William K. Koppany has been Board-Certified by the State Bar of California as a Workers’ Compensation Specialist since 2004. With over forty years of litigation and management experience and more than two hundred workers’ compensation trials, he has extensive expertise in complex, multi-million-dollar catastrophic injury and death claims. In addition, William has a greater than 90% dismissal rate in the area of psychiatric injury claims. He also represents entities in California Labor Code Section 132a claims and workers’ compensation subrogation matters. He has an outstanding record of success in his capacity as a workers’ compensation trial attorney. 

William is also an accomplished civil litigator. His areas of concentration include products liability, medical malpractice, construction site injuries, and insurance coverage matters.  He has tried over eighty cases to verdict. William has also litigated over thirty bankruptcy matters and successfully resolved over one hundred civil

litigation cases through arbitration and mediation. 

William has taught over fifty seminars covering every aspect of workers' compensation defense, including claims handling, American Medical Association Guides, HIPPA, Qualified Medical Examinations, apportionment, negotiations, evidence, workers' compensation liens, and subrogation. 

His major clients have included the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District, the City of Pasadena, the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and the California Insurance Guarantee Association (CIGA). 

 

William holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Management and Organization from the University of Southern California. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern School of Law. He has two years of formal classroom training in the art of negotiation. 

In addition to the State Bar of California, William is also a member of the Louisiana Bar Association (currently inactive). He is admitted to the U.S. District Court, Central District of California and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California. 

 

He has also served as a Judge Pro Tempore with the Los Angeles County Superior Court and a Judge Pro Tempore on the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. 

 

He is a long-standing member of the Magic Castle Academy of Magical Arts and Sciences and served as a Committee Member for over eighteen years. He also enjoys writing children’s books and playing the piano. William volunteers with St. Anne’s Family Services, a social services organization with the mission of building safe, nurturing, and resilient families.
